Summary: Everybody with sinus problems should use a Neti Pot!
Comment: I was experiencing excruciating sinus headaches on a regular basis. Neti Pot was suggested to me by a friend who is a nurse so I thought I would give it a try. WOW! I am so glad that I did. This method of irrigating and cleansing my sinuses has really helped prevent my headaches and has driven away a few that were coming on.

Summary: Will Tie Your Shoes and Iron Your Shirts, Too
Comment: My MD prescribed $200 worth of antibiotics and decongestants when I got bronchitis and a sinus infection last winter. I couldn’t bring myself to spend the money so I did some reading on WebMD, which advocates nasal irrigation and decided to try it. I kicked both and now use the neti pot whenever I get that not-so-fresh feeling in my sinuses. I haven’t been able to find neti wash locally but more salt is easy to come by.
My advice, which wasn’t really well articulated in the pamphlet, is to heed the measurements (too much salt will burn, too little salt and your sinuses will close all up) and persist. I’m not sure how to talk about snot without being gross, but if you’re finding that you can’t get a flow going, pause, give a couple of good hard toots through both nostrils and then resume. Keep doing that until you can get it flowing. If you stop when you’re stopped up you’ll just have sinus discomfort all day.

Summary: Simple to use!
Comment: Many friends and doctors and yoga teachers have recommended using a neti pot to deal with my allergies and congestion and yes gentle snoring. Within minutes of delivery I used the pot and solution successfully without getting any solution in my mouth…. I was terrified I’d gag on salty water. I haven’t sneezed for the last two hours!

Summary: I Can Smell Again
Comment: I have had a very poor olfactory sense (smell) most of my adult years. I’m 71. After only a few days of saline irrigation I have become acutely aware of smells everywhere I go. This is totally new to me.
But let me tell you what I actually did:
First, I went to the drug store and purchased an Infant Ear Syringe. At home I mixed 1/4 teaspoon of ordinary table salt with two cups of warm water. I used this until the Neti Pot Kit arrived four days later. This worked for me – I’m not sensitive to iodine. But note that the Ear Syringe cost about $3.00 and is made of rubber. It couldn’t possibly last more than three months of regular use.
Anyway, I’m real happy with this kit. The Neti Pot works better than the Ear Syringe and will certainly last much longer. And I don’t have to worry about something growing inside the syringe – I can better clean the Neti Pot. The little bottle of Net Wash is nice and may help protect me from future sinus infections. I ordered an extra tub of salt because it is probably more pure than the salt at the market.
I certainly will make nasal irrigation a regular routine mornings and evenings. I wish I had known about this many years ago.
